Do I need to show a justification of insurance to the Prefecture when I request a residency permit ?

If you entered France with " Protocole d’Accueil ", it is not necessary to justify your health coverage to the prefecture. In this case, your host institution will act as your guarantor. Similarly, salaried persons do not need to show this type of justification. However, the work contract or a letter of hiring is sometimes requested. On the other hand, if you do not have a " Protocole d’Accueil " or if you are not salaried, some prefectures request proof of insurance (Certificat d'Assurance). Students must bring a certificate of coverage issued by the student social security or by the CMU.
